Lippitt O’Keefe Gornbein Founder Norman Lippitt Named Leader In The Law

Lippitt O’Keefe Gornbein is proud to announce that founding partner Norman Lippitt has been named a Leader In The Law by Michigan Lawyers Weekly.

The prestigious award recognizes attorneys for significant accomplishments and achievements in the practice of law, for outstanding contributions to legal practice in Michigan and for having set an example for other lawyers.

“These attributes epitomize Norman and his contribution to the practice of law,” said Ryan C. Plecha, nominating attorney and a partner at Lippitt O’Keefe Gornbein, PLLC.

Lippitt was honored at a “Leader in the Law” luncheon held today at the Detroit Marriott Hotel in Troy, Michigan.

Lippitt has served as a prosecutor in the Wayne County Recorders & Circuit Court, a criminal defense attorney, a judge in Oakland County Circuit Court and currently is a private practitioner specializing in civil litigation at Lippitt O’Keefe Gornbein, PLLC.

He has tried a wide variety of jury trials including shareholder actions, contract disputes, employment matters, civil rights and professional liability to conclusion. And he has successfully defended and resolved major class action suits in both state and federal court.

Lippitt represents some of the nation’s largest corporations, many privately held businesses and notable individuals. His reputation for excellence is nationwide, which is reflected in his serving as local counsel for national law firms. Locally his reputation of knowledge, persistence and decisiveness has resulted in his appointment as an arbitrator and mediator in various practice areas.

“Norman has been a leading lawyer in Michigan for more than 50 years and will continue to be for many years to come,” said Plecha, “Norman’s receipt of the ‘Leader in the Law’ award for 2015 by Michigan Lawyers Weekly is a richly deserved honor.”

Lippitt’s book about work as a trial lawyer — “In the Trenches: Guerilla Warfare and Other Trial Tactics” — has been described by a leading jurist as “a mandatory read for any lawyer who may have to go to trial.” It was on’s best-seller list for a number of months after publication four years ago.

A member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum recognizing trial lawyers who have repeatedly achieved trial verdicts of $1,000,000 or more, he has been named by his peers to the Michigan “Super Lawyers” list for professional achievement.

Lippitt is a graduate of the Detroit College of Law, now the Michigan State University College of Law, where in 1998 he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree for his long-standing service to the school. A former vice president of the Michigan State University College of Law’s board of trustees, he was named a Trustee Emeritus in 2010. He also is an active member of State Bar of Michigan and the Oakland County Bar Association.

He is a frequent speaker on a variety of subjects at colleges and universities, bar association meetings and community gatherings and currently resides in
